Australian Army Skill at Arms Meeting

This year Marathon targets were involved in two matches at AASAM, the sniper competition and a Close Quarter Engagement (CQE). The high repeatibility of robots performance allowed for identical serials for all contestants.

Two robots moved from a range of 600m to 800m, one dressed as a combatant and another as a hostage. A third robot, dressed as an combatant, was initially hidden. It was triggered into action by the first shot at the target and emerged from behind cover at 150m charging towards the sniper team.

This demanded a rapid re-alignment from the shooter and observation from the spotter to realise the third robot had broken cover. This robot caused confusion in some teams with a surprising number of missed shots. This identified the problem of target fixation as snipers often focus too much on their optics.
